Funding
- In brief
- Basic funding
- Extra funding for primary schools
- Additional funding
Additional funding
Primary, secondary and mbo (Secondary vocational education) schools can also receive additional funding.
There are 4 types of additional funding:
- regular for secondary and mbo schools
- in case of uncommon developments, for all schools
- in uncommon circumstances, for all schools
- for workload management, secondary and mbo schools
Additional funding - secondary and mbo schools
The additional funding depends on the total number of pupils or students registered on 1 October of the previous funding year and who attended the school. The schoolboards receive this amount automatically, and in monthly instalments. Additional funding is paid out at the same time as the basic funding.
Bonaire
You receive additional funding for:
- pupils with specific educational needs. This amount is 40% of the total of the basic funding.
- setting up and continuing with small labour-market related mbo programmes.
Saba and Sint Eustatius
You receive additional funding for:
- pupils with specific educational needs. This amount is 40% of the total of the basic funding.
- wage and level of costs and examination costs. This amount is 36% of the total of the basic funding and the light support funding for pupils with specific educational needs.
- personnel and materials for schools in isolated and smaller locations. This amount depends on the number of pupils.
- setting up and continuing with small labour-market related CVQ programmes.
In case of uncommon developments
DUO pays out additional funding if the Minister decides that it is necessary. In such case, schools receive the payment automatically and there is no need to apply for it.
In uncommon circumstances
School boards must apply for this additional funding through the National Office for the Caribbean Netherlands (RCN) or the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It is not paid out automatically. Applications must be made in the same calendar year in which the uncommon circumstanceshappen.
For workload management - secondary and mbo schools
This funding can be used to relieve your staff's workload and to set up and carry out an overall workload reduction policy.
Amount
The amount is based on the number of pupils or students on 1 October of the previous calendar year. The schools on Saba and St. Eustatius receive a higher amount per pupil than the school on Bonaire due to the higher level of costs.
Payment
The school board receives the funding automatically. The funding is set no later than May. It is paid out monthly and in equal instalments. In the 1st month of payment, you also receive any previous installments.
Recalculation
Each year, DUO recalculates the funding based on the auditor's review and the contribution for wage and price development. This happens no later than December of the funding year.
Accountability
The school board must account for the expenses in the form 'Declaration of Workload Management secondary education'. Download this form at Annual reporting.
